Tompkins County 4-H Programs to Host Annual Youth Fair and Family Fun Day July 25-29
ITHACA, NY – Tompkins County’s 4-H Youth Development Programs will present the annual Youth Fair and Family Fun Day, July 25-29, at 4-H Acres, 418 Lower Creek Rd in Ithaca, NY. The week’s events include animal shows, junior and adult Iron Chef competitions, displays of creative projects in the arts and sciences, hands-on activities, delicious food and more. Admission and parking for the fair are free, and all are welcome.
For a week each July, the Tompkins County 4-H program hosts this entirely youth-run fair that gives local 4-H members an opportunity to display projects they’ve completed during the preceding 12 months, receive feedback and evaluation and potentially be chosen to move on and present their work for judging at the next level, the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse.
The public is especially encouraged to experience the best of the 4-H Fair at Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 29 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Visitors will see live farm animals raised by 4-H members, including rabbits, cows, sheep, goats and dogs. In Kiwanis Hall, stationary displays present creative projects by 4-H members in the arts, crafts, science, entomology, animal and environmental science, clothing and more. Visitors can attend a dog show and a rabbit show and hopping competition, take part in a Plant Science activity, enjoy cookies decorated by the 4-H Sweets and Treats Club and watch youth compete in the 4-H Olympics. A schedule of events and times can be found at CCETompkins.org/4HFair.
Chicken BBQ dinners and halves will be sold from 11:30 am until gone to benefit 4-H Programs in Tompkins County. Dinners are $12 and include ½ chicken, salt potatoes with butter, baked beans, and a Texas Roadhouse roll w/cinnamon butter; ½ chicken is $10. Drinks will be available for a separate price. Take out and dine-in options are available.
4-H is a worldwide youth development program available in every state and over eighty countries. It is open to youth ages 5 to 19, who find in 4-H a supportive environment and opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning about things that interest them.
