Shade-tolerant flowers
Pond surrounded by flowers

The Woodland Garden now occupies the former pond, pictured here

Woodland Rock Garden

Because of the shade from neighboring trees, this garden is appropriately named the Woodland Rock Garden. Most of this garden space was a pond until 2024, but the pond was filled and fully planted in 2026. The Adirondack Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society (ACNARGS) manages this garden area. In keeping with the general focus of ACNARGS, this garden demonstrates how to create a rock garden for shade. Adventurous gardeners that we are, we’ve sought out uncommon plants, sometimes even pushing the hardiness zone, to experiment with what’s possible as well as what’s beautiful.
