Out Garden

Ithaca, NY

Louis and Sheila’s garden is a hidden gem in the city. Plantings in front of their home are low-maintenance, with shrubs and stone retaining walls on the steep slope. The back yard features exuberant borders of bright summer perennials at the base of a high retaining wall, to which Louis added a black locust grid to create a geometric focal point behind the gardens. Shade-loving perennials surround a weeping cherry tree, and a small pond with a wooden bridge and stone terrace provides a restful place to observe wildlife that visit the pond.

NOTE: This garden was featured on an Open Days Garden Tour and is not open to the public at other times.
