This is an unfinished owner-built home on a 38-acre parcel in the beautiful Cayuta Lake Valley. The house and land are being designed using permaculture principles as a guide for sustainable living. While some of the features that will make the house energy-wise are unfinished, the house is functioning and demonstrates the active/passive solar principles that make it an efficient and comfortable home.
Permaculture teacher and Cayuta Sun designer Michael Burns will offer a short introduction to permaculture at 10 a.m. and 2 pm. as well as regular tours of the home's wind, solar and other energy systems.
Tim Reap ( http://www.ithacacarpenter.com/), the builder of the earth-bermed, double-walled, and highly-insulated home will be on site to answer questions.
Jake Maher Delisle, FLPCI alumni and intern will talk about vermicomposting and soil building at 12 p.m.
